The last time you went out to your patio table, you noticed a horrible smell. After checking the bottoms of your shoes and underneath the table, you finally found the source: your patio umbrella. Patio umbrellas can be a major source of mildew. Cleaning and protecting them properly is important, not only to protect the umbrella itself but to protect your health as well. Mildew, along with emitting foul odors, can cause illness. To protect your patio umbrellas, open them during a sunny day to dry out and wipe them down with a mildew protecting formula every now and then. After a hard rain, let the umbrella dry thoroughly to keep the mildew creating moisture at a low level.
