Patio chairs -an important element

Patio chairs can be an important element in your outdoor design.  There are some beautiful patio chairs on the market, but before you get carried away with design, here are a few basic design elements to take into account.  Shape plays a big role in the design of furniture.  Furniture designers use shapes to achieve different effects.  Angular shapes tend convey strength and masculinity.  Angular patio chairs can work well in a deck setting, especially one that has lots of angles in it.  Curves tend to have a softer feel and look great on patios with a more feminine atmosphere or place with lots of plants. Proportion is a combination of shape and size.  This can be used to create interesting design effects like asymmetry and unexpected architecture.  Patio chairs are generally of average proportions but getting patio chairs with unusual proportions is a great way to liven up your patio area.  Try juxtaposing oversized chairs and very small tables for a surprising effect.  Color can work with all these elements of design as a unifying aspect.  Matching the color of your patio chairs to their surroundings will harmonize the space.  Design may seem mysterious at first it is really a matter of breaking down simple elements.
